I am a pioneer of the new media industry; a professional sports team owner and a philanthropist. I am currently Vice Chairman of America Online, Inc. and President of AOL's audience-based businesses. I am the longest tenured senior-level AOL executive and has served in multiple leadership capacities during my dozen years with the company.
In his present position, I've sets strategy and vision for AOL, Inc.; champions the members' voice for all AOL-related brands; and have direct responsibility for AOL's audience-based businesses - the division that aggregates audiences and creates products and programming for more than 100 million unique monthly visitors on the AOL, AOL.com, CompuServe, Netscape.com, Moviefone, Weblogs, Truveo, AIM, ICQ, and MapQuest. I am also responsible for original content development for AOL, Inc. and all ad sales, commerce and search-related revenue streams.
Prior to joining AOL, I was the founder and pioneer of Redgate Communications Corporation - a pioneering new media company. In 1993, Redgate was the first company ever acquired by AOL. During my career, I was also the founder of six personal computer magazines, authored four books, and worked on the introduction of the IBM PC and the Apple MacIntosh. I've also co-invented a very successful board game called "Only in New York." In addition, I served as a marketing executive with Harris Corp and Wang Laboratories.

I served as mayor of my hometown in Orchid, Florida, for 6 years; is in my second term as a member of the Board of Directors of myalma mater - Georgetown University; and am deeply involved with multiple charities via my family's charity giving organization, the Leonsis Foundation. I am also co-founder of e-Buddies - a division of Best Buddies.
I am a majority owner of the NHL's Washington Capitals hockey team and the WNBA's Washington Mystics women's basketball team, and a minority owner with future purchase rights in the NBA's Washington Wizards basketball team, the MCI Center, and the DC/Baltimore Ticketmaster franchise.
Among my many honors, I havde been named Washington's Businessman of the Year, a Washingtonian of the Year, one of the 20 most influential people in sports, one of America's most creative executives, and a top 10 entrepreneur of the year. He lives in McLean, Virginia and Vero Beach, Florida with his wife and two children.
